Short Domain Names Scheduled for Release by Nominet

Following our legal update on 18 August 2010, see link, right, in relation to Nominet's proposals to release a number of two letter, one character and other reserved .uk Domain Names, a press release has been issued indicating that details are to be published on 1 November 2010. There will be a change to Nominet's rules as a result of the change to accommodate the registration of these short domain names.

Following the results of the consultation, Nominet have confirmed that in order to respect prior rights and to ensure an orderly and fair release they will hold a two stage sunrise and landrush process. Further details of this are available on the Nominet website. The aim is to begin the first stage of release before the end of the year.
