UK IPO Launches Peer to Patent Pilot

UK IPO Launches Peer to Patent Pilot

The UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO) on 1 June launched a pilot scheme to trial a new tool which allows the scientific and technology community to view and comment on patent applications. The scheme, called Peer-to-Patent, is designed to improve the quality of patents by providing the UK IPO with access to a wider body of knowledge.

During the six month pilot, 200 applications in the computing field will be gradually uploaded to the Peer-to-Patent website. Registered users will have 3 months to comment on applications and upload and evaluate prior art documents.
