Sean McCann

I joined D Young & Co in 2019, and qualified as a European and Chartered Patent Attorney in 2023.
Before joining the firm, I completed a masters degree in natural sciences at the University of Cambridge, where I developed a broad scientific background with a specialism in physics. Since then, I have worked across a wide range of technological areas including telecommunications, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), computer architecture, video games, medical technology, image processing, gas networks, and mechanical devices.
I am experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications before both the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) and European Patent Office (EPO), and have represented clients in oral proceedings before examining divisions of the EPO.
One of my primary areas of interest is drafting and prosecuting patent applications with the aim of mapping to telecommunications standards. I also advise on whether patents are essential to the implementation of telecommunication standards. Additionally, I handle infringement and patentability analyses, and draft third party observations.
