UPC: huge response from judge candidates
The Preparatory Committee of the Unified Patent Court has reported that the response to the recent call for interest from candidates for legal and technical judges, which closed on 15 November, has been overwhelming, with well in excess of 1,000 responses. It will obviously take considerable time to sift through the notifications and identify appropriate candidates for further selection
At about the same time, the UPC training team at the Hungarian Patent Office has announced that there will be a conference on training of the UPC judges in Budapest, on 13 and 14 March 2014. This is timed to coincide with the inauguration of the building of the Training Centre in Budapest. So, it would seem that Hungary, which has responsibility for the training centre, is pressing ahead with preparations to train the future judges, an essential pre-requisite before the system can come into effect. We will keep you posted.
