Practice & Professional Experience
David’s main areas of expertise are electronic engineering and physics and his practice includes computer hardware and software, optics, nanomagnetics, process engineering and electromechanical devices. In particular, David handles patent portfolios for several direct clients including European technology companies, US software corporations and a UAE cleantech fund, dealing with patent procurement and opposition/appeal matters. David also provides in-house type strategic IP planning and management advice and services to a number of SME clients. David travels regularly to the US and Middle East.
Prior to joining D Young & Co in 2001, David had professional experience in private practice in London. David became a partner at D Young & Co in 2006.
David also lectures with a US attorney on courses teaching coordinated EP/US patent drafting practice in Europe and the US.
In September 2010 David was highlighed as a "key individual" by Legal 500 in the firm's "consistently excellent" patent team (Legal 500 2010).
Qualifications
MEng (Electronic Engineering) from University of Exeter, including research at the Institute for Navigation, University of Stuttgart, Germany.
European Patent Attorney 2002.
Chartered Patent Attorney 2003.
