Legal Assistant London
Profile of Sophia Karim

Since joining D Young & Co, in early 2022, I have assisted with brand-related law and litigation, with a focus on trade marks and designs. I particularly enjoy applying technical concepts and legal principles to advise clients that are as passionate about their IP as I am, at all stages of their brand from inception through to protection, enforcement, and complex contentious matters.

My role is varied and exciting, involving advocacy work for hearings, filing and prosecution, preparing witness statements, responding to registrability objections, carrying out large scale evidence-gathering exercises, and conducting legal research to advise clients on the law of infringement and passing off.

My legal background is in IP and technology law, and consequently I find it very rewarding to provide strategic intellectual property advice to achieve successful outcomes and support our clients’ innovation, who operate across a broad range of sectors. Prior to joining D Young & Co, I gained valuable advocacy and litigation experience in intellectual property law during various mini-pupillages at leading barristers’ chambers in the field, as well as legal experience across various international jurisdictions from my time at the UCLA School of Law. I am also a keen linguist – fluent in Spanish and French, with some knowledge of Hindi and Arabic, and I have recently started learning German.
