James Manktelow
My research background is in microbiology, and particularly the use of bacteria as genetic toolboxes for genetically modified plants. Since joining D Young & Co in 2020 I have worked on patent prosecution across a number of topics, from cancer treatments to RFID tagging systems for livestock.
Before joining D Young & Co I completed undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees in Biology at the University Oxford, Imperial College and the University of Exeter respectively. My PhD focused on the evolution of virulence and enhancement of bacterial toxins for use in GM crops and as biopesticides. I also employed the experimental systems developed for this to explore in vivo antibiotic resistance costs.
