Daniel Bright

I joined the team at D Young & Co in 2026 and enjoy learning about each client's individual commercial objectives and helping them develop and protect patent portfolios that support their commercial aims.
I have extensive experience in the patent profession and have worked with a wide range of clients in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors, from small organisations seeking to obtain their first patent to world-leading pharmaceutical companies. My work has involved managing patent portfolios for several high-value medicinal products, and my experience includes drafting patent applications, all aspects of European patent prosecution, and handling European Patent Office (EPO) opposition and appeal proceedings. I also have an interest in other forms of intellectual property protection relevant to pharmaceutical products and have managed several supplementary protection certificate (SPC) portfolios.
I have a strong academic background in chemistry and studied for a master’s degree at New College, University of Oxford. During my degree, I completed a research project focused on configurational disorder in metal-organic frameworks. This scientific background provides a strong foundation for my work and allows me to engage closely with the technical aspects of the inventions I advise on.
