Practice & Professional Experience

Nick’s areas of expertise are physics and electronics, including various computer-implemented technologies. Digital electronics, consumer devices and microprocessor technologies feature strongly in Nick’s portfolio. Nick frequently drafts patent applications for filing in many different jurisdictions, guides each application through its subsequent patent prosecution and is experienced in strategic patent portfolio management.

Nick joined D Young & Co in 2005, became an associate in 2009 and became a partner in 2011.

Prior to joining D Young & Co, Nick was a post-doctoral research associate based at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), in Hamburg, Germany, where his research included searches for exotic particle production in positron-proton and electron-proton collisions. Nick speaks fluent German.

Qualifications

MPhys in Physics, University of Manchester, including a year at the RWTH, Aachen, Germany.
PhD in High Energy Physics, University of Manchester, based at DESY in Hamburg, Germany.
Certificate in Intellectual Property Law (with distinction), Queen Mary College, University of London.
Chartered Patent Attorney 2009.
European Patent Attorney 2009.
