Practice & Professional Experience
Doug’s main areas of expertise are in computer technology fields (including hardware and software), consumer electronics and mobile telephony.
Doug has had experience both in private practice and industry drafting and obtaining patent applications world-wide. Previous experience includes managing in-house portfolios for Motorola UK Ltd, whilst clients in private practice have included major consumer electronics companies, research groups and start-ups.
Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Doug was a research engineer for the Defence Research Agency (now QinetiQ) between 1992 and 1995, and after completing his PhD became a research engineer for Motorola Labs between 1999 and 2002, where his work on distributed speech recognition was incorporated into the 3G standard.

BSc in Acoustic Engineering 1992 and PhD thesis in Neural Network Architecture 1999, Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, University of Southampton.
Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, Queen Mary College, University of London.
European Patent Attorney 2008.
Chartered Patent Attorney 2007.
