Ryan Lacey

I’ve always been fascinated by technology, with the rapid changes in gaming technology throughout my childhood being a particular driver of this. It has been a real pleasure being able to peek behind the curtain of this industry in my role as a patent attorney, obtaining both hardware and software protection for clients as they innovate in this area. 

In more recent years I’ve developed an appreciation for the outdoors, and naturally the technology that is able to accompany us on our adventures. Navigation with a bike computer and tracking activities with wearable technology are more obvious examples of technology, but my interests also extend to the less electronic side – such as innovations in bicycle design, and the evolution of climbing gear over the years.

I joined D Young & Co in 2014 after completing a master's degree in Physics with Mathematics at the University of Southampton. Over the course of my career, I have gained experience in drafting and prosecuting UK, European, and international patent applications for clients ranging from startups to established businesses. I work across a wide range of technologies, with a strong background in the drafting and prosecution of software patents, keeping up to date with developments in the patent industry through my membership of the CIPA Journal editorial team.
