Associate, Patent Attorney London
Profile of Jake Leggat

I joined the patent team at D Young & Co in 2020.  I have a strong technical background in physics, which I enjoy applying to the commercial aspects of my role.

Before entering the IP profession, I completed a Master’s degree in physics at the University of Warwick. I eventually specialised in condensed matter physics, researching how the properties of diamond may be harnessed for quantum computing. My degree also contained a strong emphasis on astrophysics and space science, and I am particularly interested technologies related to these areas.

Since joining the firm, I have gained experience in the drafting and prosecution of UK, European and foreign patent applications for a variety of clients, including multinational corporations, SMEs and academic institutions. I also have experience in contentious proceedings before the EPO, supporting litigation, and providing infringement and validity opinions for clients. My work covers a broad range of electrical, mechanical and IT technologies.
