Eleanor Downing

I have a strong background in physics which I enjoy applying to a variety of different technical fields, as well as exploring commercial aspects in my role.

I completed a Master of Physics at the University of Durham, specialising in astrophysics in my final year. I was awarded the prize for the strongest astronomy master’s project for my work analysing early data from the DESI redshift survey and applying it to investigate clustering of galaxies, and the prize for highest mark in the advanced astrophysics module which covered radiative processes and optical techniques used to improve astronomical observations. I also studied laser physics and quantum computing to an advanced level.

Since joining the patent team at D Young & Co in September 2023 I have gained experience in drafting and prosecution of UK, European and foreign patent applications. I enjoy working with a wide variety of inventions, ranging from mechanical engineering (such as autonomous control of purpose-built robots and jet engine design) to electronics (such as FPGAs and low-power CPU architecture) and computer-implemented inventions.
