Patent Open Day (Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science)

Our patent open day, taking place on Tuesday 07 April 2026, is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students. If you are graduating in 2026 or later, please read to find out more.

A rarity amongst IP firms, we offer a patent open day which will provide you with real insight into life as a patent attorney. This opportunity will give you an introduction to patents and the profession. As for others who have attended in previous years, it could lead to an offer to join D Young & Co as a future trainee patent attorney!

Every year we look for a number of enthusiastic and focused candidates within the electronics, engineering, physics, and IT sectors to spend time with our team during the Easter break.

What you will enjoy

  • The opportunity to gain invaluable experience and knowledge of what could be your future career.
  • Obtaining real insight into intellectual property law by speaking with team members at various stages of their careers, including partners, qualified and trainee attorneys, and previous attendees of the open day who were subsequently recruited to our team.
  • Understanding the career advantages that you will have within our firm.

What you will need

  • To be a motivated electronics, engineering, physics or computer science undergraduate or post graduate.
  • A desire to gain a real perspective of what life as a patent attorney involves.

Travel expenses will be paid up to a maximum of £100 per person.
