Oliver Hosier

I have a technical background in physics and enjoy applying this technical expertise to a variety of clients. I am especially motivated by the role patents play in protecting innovation and helping inventors develop and share new ideas.

I joined the patent team at D Young & Co in September 2025. Before this I completed an integrated Master’s degree (Mphys) in physics at the University of Edinburgh. For my Master’s research, I investigated the van der Waals ferromagnet VI3, confirming the structural phase transitions using X-ray diffraction and other computational methods.

Since joining the firm, I have gained experience in prosecuting European and UK patent applications and have assisted with the drafting of patent specifications. I am currently working towards qualification as a patent attorney.
