Consultant, Plant Variety Rights
Profile of Bart Kiewiet

As a leading specialist in plant variety law, I work closely with the firm's biotechnology team in advising clients on IP protection, research and registrations in respect of new plant varieties in the European Union (eg, using the CPVO), as well as the registration of new varieties in other countries.

Previous positions I’ve held include President of the Dutch Board for Plant Breeders' Rights, Judge at the Trade and Industry Appeals Board of the Netherlands, Secretary General of the Dutch Commodity Board for Ornamentals and Head of Legal Affairs at the Dutch Commodity Board for Fruit and Vegetables.

Furthermore, I was the previous Chair of the National Board for Plant Variety Rights, and was subsequently appointed Chair of the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) until 2011.

I am a regular speaker on the subject of plant variety rights and a co-author of "European Community Plant Variety Protection", a comprehensive overview of the system protecting plant breeders' interests and guide to how to obtain plant variety protection and enforce those rights.

The team is widely seen as one of the very best in the market, employing some of the most impressive practitioners and involved in some of the most interesting work.
