Technical Assistant Southampton
Profile of Lokesh Jain

I joined D Young & Co as a technical assistant in 2021 after completing a Master’s degree in physics and philosophy at the University of Oxford. I particularly enjoy combining my love of understanding how things work on a technical level with the legal challenge of convincing an examiner that a given invention is, by the letter of the law, novel and inventive.

My academic background covers a wide range of areas within physics, with specialisms in astrophysics and geophysics. As part of my Master’s degree, I undertook a research project investigating the dissipation of tides in the outer regions of binary stars.

I also studied a wide range of philosophical topics, from epistemology and metaphysics to more technical subjects like the philosophy of science and the philosophy of physics. This, in particular, gave me experience in explaining and analysing advanced technical concepts; the communication skills which I consequently developed are invaluable as a trainee patent attorney.

Since joining D Young & Co, I have gained experience in the prosecution of patent applications for a wide range of clients working in different technologies, including microprocessor architecture, artificial intelligence and digital electronics.
