Senior Associate, Solicitor London
Profile of Jake Hayes

One of the best parts about being an IP lawyer is working with companies and individuals looking to maximise the benefit of their innovations, artistry and brand power. I specialise in helping clients resolve IP disputes, but I also focus on transactional matters.

I have experience with a breadth of contentious matters ranging from multi-jurisdictional patent infringements to trade mark, designs and copyright infringement actions in the UK’s specialist intellectual property court (IPEC). I have also represented clients in opposition, validity and revocation actions in relation to trade marks and design rights before the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Regardless of the venue, I’m interested in achieving clients’ objectives, whether through litigation or using alternative means such as arbitration or mediation.

I’ve worked with clients in a wide-range of sectors: FMCG, food and drink, health and beauty, finance, high jewellery, telecommunications and construction, to name only a few.

On the transactional side, I’ve worked with clients looking to monetise their rights in variety of ways, whether as part of a larger corporate transaction, or as a multi-territorial licensing, distribution or manufacturing deal.

Prior to joining D Young & Co LLP, I worked in a precedent-setting London-based IP boutique and I trained and practised at a leading, global firm of IP specialists. I’m also proud of my previous career in the charity sector, working with large and small companies to form partnerships and brand licensing arrangements to achieve their charitable objectives.
