Practice & Professional Experience
Paul practices as a patent attorney in the mechanical and electro-mechanical fields acting mainly for US and Japanese companies either directly or on an agency basis through patent attorney firms in their home countries. Paul handles the full spectrum of subject matter in these fields with particular emphasis on automotive and aerospace technologies. Paul also acts for a range of UK companies handling the drafting of new patent applications and their filing and prosecution in the UK and abroad.
Paul is also an experienced design attorney with particular expertise in optimising registered design applications for filing under the new applicant-friendly regime that applies in the UK and in Europe. In particular, in terms of obtaining pan-European registered design protection using Registered Community Design applications, Paul often advises foreign applicants how to optimise their application based on the previous design application filed in their home country such as the US or Japan.
Paul joined D Young & Co as an associate in 1988 after working in private practice in London since 1984.
