D Young & Co appoints plant variety rights specialist

D Young & Co is pleased to announce the appointment of plant variety rights consultant Bart Kiewiet.
Previous Chair of the National Board for Plant Variety Rights, and subsequently Chair of the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) until 2011, Bart is considered a leading specialist in plant variety law.
Bart brings a wealth of legal and IP experience to D Young & Co and will work closely with the firm's biotechnology team in advising clients on IP protection, research and registrations in respect of new plant varieties in the European Union (eg, using the CPVO) as well as the registration of new varieties in other countries.
Previous positions held by Bart include President of the Dutch Board for Plant Breeders' Rights, Judge at the Trade and Industry Appeals Board of the Netherlands, Secretary General of the Dutch Commodity Board for ornamentals and Head of Legal Affairs at the Dutch Commodity Board for Fruit and Vegetables.
A regular speaker on the subject of plant variety rights, Bart is co-author of "European Community Plant Variety Protection", a comprehensive overview of the system protecting plant breeders' interests and guide to how to obtain plant variety protection and enforce those rights.
