Practice & Professional Experience
Matthew joined D Young & Co in 2008. His practice focuses on prosecution of patent applications and opinion work relating to the pharmaceutical, medical science and chemical industries.
Prior to entering the patent law profession, Matthew worked for 7 years as a medicinal chemist for one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. He specialised in the lead optimisation of new chemical entities for treatment of neurological conditions. In the course of his work he received an Exceptional Science Award for the development of a synthetic route toward a key series of 5-azaindole CB2 agonists.
Matthew has co-authored papers in several peer-reviewed journals and has been a co-inventor on a number of patents/patent applications. He has presented his research at national and international conferences.

MChem in Chemistry with Pharmacology, University of Liverpool.
Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, Queen Mary College, University of London.
