Protocol on Privileges and Immunities for the UPC
20 January 2017
The UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) announced today that the Protocol on Privileges and Immunities of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), signed by the UK on 14 December 2016 (see previous article here), has been laid before Parliament.
The Protocol on Privileges will sit in Parliament for 21 days and thereafter the process will begin towards legislation to implement the Protocol. If all proceeds to plan, this legislation should be approved in March or April 2017, allowing the UK to ratify the UPC Agreement soon thereafter.
We will continue to monitor the progress of UK ratification closely, in particular to identify any sign of delay in the process.
