Practice & Professional Experience

Kirk specialisesin pharmaceutical patent work providing advice to a range of clients including multinational companies, SMEs and university spin-outs.  His practice encompasses drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications with a particular emphasis on infringement and validity analysis and EPO opposition/appeal proceedings.  In this regard, Kirk has successfully represented his clients in proceedings relating to some of the world's best selling pharmaceutical products.

Kirk is a key member of the team servicing Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. He recently spent several months working in-house with Teva’s European Patent Department, further strengthening D Young & Co’s relationship with Teva.

Prior to joining the patent profession, Kirk spent two years as a senior research scientist with a major pharmaceutical company.  Immediately prior to joining D Young & Co in 2001, Kirk worked as an in-house patent attorney at GlaxoSmithKline.  Kirk has also spent time working in New York with a large US law firm.

Qualifications

BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, University of Sussex.
PhD in synthetic organic chemistry, University of Southampton (Pfizer Organic Chemistry Prize).
Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, Queen Mary College, University of London.
LLM in Intellectual Property Litigation, Nottingham Law School.
European Patent Attorney 2001.
Chartered Patent Attorney 2002.
European Design Attorney.

European Patent Institute (epi).
